Join the Center in the No More Oil Spills Month of Action
Nearly three months after the oil-rig blowout that sent oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, the spill continues to devastate our ocean and coasts.
The toll so far: 11 workers killed and numerous others sickened in the clean up; 1,789 birds, 457 sea turtles and 59 mammals (mainly dolphins) collected dead; tar balls polluting shores from Texas to Florida and now, oil stretching into Louisiana's Lake Pontchartrain. Our losses increase daily, with no certain end in sight.
Every day, people ask us what they can do about the catastrophe in the Gulf. Here's one concrete thing: Take part in the No More Oil Spills Month of Action.
This week, we need you to email your senators. Please contact them today and urge them to stop oil spills by moving us rapidly away from our dependence on fossil fuels. How? By protecting and implementing the Clean Air Act to curb carbon pollution without delay, and enacting a permanent moratorium on offshore oil drilling.
