Tell Congress Not to Rush Keystone XL Decision
Right-wing leaders in Congress are pushing to rewrite good legislation to force a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline's approval within 60 days. We need your urgent help now.
The Keystone XL will ship roughly 34 million gallons of dirty tar-sands oil from Canada through the U.S. heartland to Gulf Coast refineries every day if approved. It will cross hundreds of water bodies and threaten the habitat of endangered whooping cranes, pallid sturgeons and American burying beetles.
Pipeline ruptures and spills are practically guaranteed: Another Keystone pipeline, in operation since 2010, has already spilled 14 times.
Tar-sands oil is also the dirtiest oil on the planet. Compared with conventional oil it produces two to three times more greenhouse gases to extract and refine and will prevent us from moving on to safer energy sources and a stable climate.
The Keystone XL pipeline should never be approved, let alone rushed to approval through a backdoor rider on unrelated legislation. Please take action now to tell your representative in Congress to oppose any legislation related to the Keystone XL pipeline.
Then tell your friends on Twitter and Facebook to do the same.
