Where: 1055 Monterey St., San Luis Obispo, CA 93408
Multinational oil giant Phillips 66 is continuing to push for its dangerous oil trains project in San Luis Obispo County -- and we need your help to beat back this terrible proposal once again. If approved, the project will allow more than 7 million gallons of toxic, highly flammable crude oil to be shipped via rail to the company's refineries each week, endangering Central Coast communities everywhere these trains roll.
After a 3-2 rejection by the San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission this past October, Phillips 66 has appealed the denial to the county's Board of Supervisors. The board needs to hear loud and clear that these oil trains have no place near our homes, parks, schools, water supplies and wildlife habitat. Explosive derailments are a matter of when, not if.
Public hearings for this appeal will start on Monday, March 13 at 9 a.m. and continue every day that week as needed. The Center and allies will also hold a "SLO Clean Energy Crossroads" rally at noon on March 13 directly outside the Board of Supervisors Chambers.
